Christmas services planned indoors, outdoors and online throughout North County

North County churches celebrate Christmas with a variety of indoor, online and outdoor services under the stars in church yards decorated with lights and Nativity scenes. Here is a sample. Masks are mandatory for all domestic services, regardless of vaccination status, in accordance with the mandate of the state. Check church websites for more COVID-19 health protocol updates.

Redeemer by the sea: Contemporary candlelight service at 5 p.m. and traditional candlelight service at 7 p.m. on December 24 at the church, 6600 Black Rail Road. The live stream and recorded links can be found at

Church of Dawn: Christmas candle lighting services are at 6 p.m. on December 23 and 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on December 24 at the church, 6515 Ambrosia Lane. There will also be an outdoor area to watch the service. Visit

St. Michael’s by the Sea Episcopal Church: Christmas Eve show and family mass from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on December 24 outside at church, 2775 Carlsbad Blvd. The solemn Christmas Eve High Mass is at 11 p.m. at the church. Presbyterian Church of Christ: In-person and online candlelight worship services on Christmas Eve at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on December 24 with Christmas lessons and carols at the church, 7807 Centella St., with indoor seating and outside. San Diego Saddleback Church: Christmas Eve services at 4 p.m. on December 24 with Polar Express Christmas train rides for kids afterwards in the Canyon Crest Academy parking lot, 5951 Village Center Loop Road. Christmas Services take place December 25-26 at 10 a.m. at Canyon Crest Academy. Visit

Saint-Pierre Episcopal Church: Christmas Eve services are 3 p.m. outdoors with a kid-friendly program and 5 p.m. on December 24 inside the church, 334 14th St., and broadcast live. The Christmas Day service is indoors at 10 a.m. on December 25 and is streaming. In addition to the masks, proof of vaccination is required for internal services. The church will also host two online events, a Christmas show premiering at 5 p.m. on December 19 and a Blue Christmas online service from 7 p.m. on December 20. Village church: Four Christmas Eve services: family worship service at 2 p.m. on December 24 outside on the patio, traditional worship at 4 p.m. inside the sanctuary with live broadcasting, 6 p.m. on the patio and 11 p.m. (with communion) in the sanctuary, 6225 Paseo Delicias. Horizon Christian Brotherhood: Christmas Eve candlelight worship services are held on December 24 at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. in the church, 6365 El Apajo Road. “Snow” is expected after each service. St. James and St. Leo Catholic Community: Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00 p.m. on December 24 with the Children’s Choir at St. James’s Church, 625 S.
