Health Ministry spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the precautionary measures we are taking to prevent exposure to the coronavirus should be adequate to tackle the recently discovered “Florona” virus, in a statement released on Saturday. .
The statement was issued in response to what was released regarding the emergence of a new virus that combines corona and bird flu called Florona, after Israel on Thursday announced its first case of Florona.
Abdel Ghaffar explained that the emergence of Florona was expected, because when COVID-19 first appeared in January 2020, scientists were talking about the possibility of being infected with the new virus and the flu at the same time.
He stressed the need to respect social distancing, avoid crowded or poorly ventilated areas, wear a mask and wash your hands regularly.
The “double illness” was recorded in an unvaccinated woman who was admitted to Rabin Medical Center during the last week of December 2021 to give birth. The patient is healthy so far with only mild symptoms.
The ministry added in its daily update that 25 new COVID-19-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours nationwide, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 21,752.
The statement added that 539 patients were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 320,563.
