Officers of the Ministry of Emergencies of Kazakhstan have improved their ability to use GIS technologies and mapping in emergencies – Kazakhstan

From 16 to 20 May 2022, the Centre, together with a partner – the British non-governmental organization MapAction, organized for the first time the training of officers of the MES of Kazakhstan on the use of GIS technologies and mapping in the event of an emergency. emergency in hybrid mode.

The event was attended by 25 officers of the central office and territorial departments of the ESM of Kazakhstan.

MapAction experts have prepared a detailed and in-depth course with presentations and videos on how to use all the tools and features of the QGIS software. Based on the results of the daily quizzes and the implementation of the simulation tasks, the participants awarded the certificates of successful completion of the advanced mapping and GIS training course.

Additionally, the USAID Kazakhstan Office Program Coordinator, Mr. Garrett Harris, visited the training and highly appreciated the efforts made to improve the capacity of MES agents; he also said he was ready to facilitate the conduct of advanced training in 2023.

In total, since 2019, the Center and MapAction have conducted ten training on the use of GIS technologies, more than 240 emergency authorities from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were trained.
